Natural Sciences Keynote Address (1) Room B, 2F 10:15-12:15, Wednesday, May 8, 2019 Topic: A Mechanical Vibration-Induced Electric Energy Generation (MVEG) Dr. Hiroshi Uechi Department of Nuclear Physics, Osaka Gakuin University A Mechanical Vibration-Induced Electric Energy Generation (MVEG) Schun T. Uechi a and Hiroshi Uechi b a 902 S Citron, Anaheim, CA USA, quantum2006hara@gmail.com b Osaka Gakuin University, Suita, Osaka Japan, uechi@ogu.ac.jp Abstract We will discuss an energy harvesting method to convert mechanical vibrations into electric energy from systems of vehicles (fig.1), motorboats, trains, wall and bridges, etc., by way of an electromagnetic induction. The research has evolved from the analysis of International Roughness Index (IRI) which is the profile of a big-data of longitudinal mechanical vibrations produced by rough road surfaces. The central proposition of energy harvesting tehcnology is to discover minute or often infinitesimal vibrations and current-flux of heat or particles to be convertible into a form of electric energy capable for practical applications. For example, the piezo-electric device is most commonly used for energy conversion from mechanical vibrations, heat or particle current-flux into electric energy. We investigated mechanical vibrations for a system of coupled sprung and unsprung masses as a model for vehicles by employing a simplified model Lagrangian with power functions and external forces. The analysis is supposed to investigate profiles of longitudinal bumps and corrugations of road-surface to study International Roughness Index (IRI), which has been used for the analysis of safety and 18

measurement of roughness of road surface. The big-data of IRI is affected by internal oscillations and trembles of mechanical systems, heat and energy dissipations, external waves and impacts. Hence, it is difficult to find specific vibrations to be converted into electric energy because of complicated three dimensional random vibrations. From theoretical analyses of model simulations of IRI, we discovered minute mechanical oscillations which can be converted into electric energy, and we have been investigating a practical way of converting mechanical-vibration energy by way of electromagnetic induction. Some of our theoretical results will be shown. The research can be extended and applied to other mechanical and engineering fields. The energy harvesting technology is an actively progressing field of research. It is useful for the development of interconnected domains of fields, such as sustainability of natural environment, ecology, economics and social welfare. Keywords: International roughness index (IRI), energy harvesting, mechanical vibrations, electromagnetic induction. References [1] S. Priya and D. J. Introduction of Dr. Hiroshi Uechi Hiroshi Uechi, Ph.D. He obtained his doctoral degree in nuclear physics (theoretical nuclear physics) from Indiana University, USA, under the guidance of Professor Brian D. Serot who founded the nuclear field theory, quantum hadrodynamics (QHD) with Professor John D. Walecka. Currently, he is a professor at Osaka Gakuin University and has been working on nuclear many-body theory and nuclear astrophysics. He has been investigating self-consistent QHD hadronic approximations in terms of Landau s Fermi-liquid theory and density functional theory (DFT) while applying QHD nonlinear and chiral effective models to neutron star calculations. He is working on nonlinear mean-field and chiral mean-field method for nuclear matter, self-consistent approximation method beyond mean-field approximations. 19

Natural Sciences Keynote Address (2) Room B, 2F 10:15-12:15, Wednesday, May 8, 2019 Topic: Testing: Art, Craft or Engineering? Dr. Simona Vasilache Graduate School of Systems and Information Engineering University of Tsukuba Abstract For a software product, testing is part of the wider area of verification and validation. By some estimations, testing may take more than a quarter of all costs associated with developing a software product. What every software engineer knows is that lack of testing may cost much, much more. Testing has gained increased attention in the recent decades, with researchers and practitioners coming up with various theories and methods of testing. This talk will discuss the numerous types of testing and the challenges faced by testers, developers and users alike. It will also attempt to answer questions like: how is testing a piece of software different from testing a physical object? how far can we go with automated testing? who should perform validation testing - the user or the developer? what is the role of ethics in unit testing? Ultimately, is testing an art, a learned craft or is it engineering? Introduction of Dr. Simona Vasilache Simona Vasilache is an assistant professor in the Graduate School of Systems and Information Engineering at the University of Tsukuba in Japan. She completed her undergraduate studies at the Politechnica University of Bucharest, Romania, and she obtained her PhD from the University of Tsukuba in Japan. Her research interests include human computer interaction, software engineering, formal methods, cultural aspects of e-learning, as well as intercultural communication. For the past 8 years she has been teaching a culturally diverse group of international students in Japan. 20

Natural Sciences Keynote Address (3) Room B, 2F 10:15-12:15, Wednesday, May 8, 2019 Topic: Disinfection By-products Free Disinfection Using High Voltage Pulse Prof. In-Soung, Chang Department of Environmental Engineering Hoseo University Disinfection by-products Free Disinfection Using High Voltage Pulse In-Soung Chang 1, * and June-Ho Lee 2 1 Department of Environmental Engineering, Hoseo University, Asan, South Korea 2 Department of Electric Engineering, Hoseo University, Asan, South Korea Abstract Ozonation for the purpose of disinfection of drinking water usually produces various kinds of disinfection byproducts (DBPs). Among the DBPs, bromate (BrO 3 - ) is notorious for its potential carcinogenic nature. World health organization (WHO) limits the bromate to 10 ppb in drinking water. To reduce this bromate formation during the disinfection processes, a high voltage impulse (HVI) technique was applied in this study. HVI has been used as one of disinfection process for non-thermal sterilization of foods. The HVI system consisted of power supply, high voltage generator, capacitors and impulse generator. HVI with 10 to 20 kv/cm of electric fields was introduced to sample waters in order to monitor if bromates are formed or not. As the precursor of bromate, i.e., bromide (Br - ) spiked into the sample waters by 1,000 ppb, bromate was not generated at all times, indicating that the bromate formation was completely inhibited. A model microorganism, Escherichia coli is inoculated to the sample waters to test the disinfection efficiency. More than 2-log reduction (99 %) of E.coli was achieved after HVI treatment with 20kV/cm, 100Hz, 4μs pulse width. Consequently, HVI technique could be used for alternative strategy for bromate free-disinfection procedure for water disinfection. 21

Social Sciences Keynote Address (1) Room C, 2F 10:15-12:15, Wednesday, May 8, 2019 Topic: Empathy and Gratitude Education for Future University Graduates Dr. Yoshiro Miyata School of Engineering, Chukyo University Dr. Alex Tat Hing Ho School of Design, Hong Kong Polytechnic University Empathy and Gratitude Education for Future University Graduates Alex Tat Hing Ho Hong Kong Polytechnic University Abstract The society nowadays progress rapidly since the industrial revolution to create tools and products that give us more convenience and help us to do things quicker. But achieving our goal fast and easy always implies hidden costs: we tend to be less appreciative to and even less conscious about resources, tools, people who produced them and the impacts to other stakeholders. Examples are abundant: over usage of air condition, traveling on private automobiles rather than public transportations, overconsumption of fast food and snacks, fast fashions and the rapid upgrade cycles of new and advanced electronic gadgets like mobile smartphones. In results, our consumption behavior becomes unsustainable in terms of availability of environmental resources or support of the social structure, where people are imposed into compulsory consumption of mass-produced products, often exploiting natural and human resources to create what Ivan Illich (1973) called radical monopoly. 22

A recent research from Professor Yoshinori Hiro of Kyoto University and Hitachi Group (2017) showed that the two most important factors for a sustainable society in Japan are to maintain the population in rural areas and cooperation between rural and city areas. To achieve these, it is necessary for people in the cities to appreciate the natural and human resources in rural areas that support their daily lives, with a further goal of encouraging the inheritance of the culture and value of rural communities. What can education do to nurture a healthy relationship between the people and resources that support their lives? We propose to inject empathy and gratitude oriented education into the university curriculums. Empathy is a competency (Gilbert, 2017) defined by one s ability to understand and share the feelings of another. Gratitude is an urge (Toda, 1981), defined by the quality of being thankful; readiness to show appreciation for and to return kindness. Researchers and educators showed that resilience, giving back, well-being and happiness are closely related to gratitude and empathy. We hope that by integrating gratitude and empathy into our education, future university graduates will help aligning the development path from pursuing speed and effortlessness to well-being and conscience, which would eventually lead to the concern about the social and planetary wellness. As a result, this would improve the chance on global sustainability. Our approach on gratitude education is based on Toda (1981) s Urge Theory, which involves the followings: Triggering gratitude by making the contributors visible to the students. Encourage contribution by involving students in the production experience with the contributors. As for commencing empathy education, we provide the following activating factors: Making the situation or context for empathy visible through group topics researches. Encourage establishment of connection and identification among students through common topics discussion by different parties and cross presentations of each other s findings and perspectives. To implement the above, Media Engineering Department of Chukyo University and School of Design of Hong Kong Polytechnic University have been collaborating since 2016 for annual exchange activities. These include experience workshops with natural resources, farm and factory visits, cross cultural research on sustainability topics linked with the activities and visits, followed by cross presentation of each other s findings and perspectives. In previous researches, we showed that these activities qualitatively affected students social urge with gratitudes and contribution (Miyata, Ho, 2017). In our keynote, we look forward to sharing quantitative results on students gratitude affected, while also evaluate their empathy developed through these 23

activities. We believe that through the above approach, well-being and conscience are achieved as a result of appreciation of natural and human resources supporting one s lives, encouraging creative activities to produce our daily needs using local resources and lead to a more sustainable future with co-existence of rural and urban populations. 24
